A poem for Reflection
Volker Krohn shared this poem at the 2010 Conference

Standing room only at Conference 2010

The 2010 CASA Conference lived up to its claim as the premier counselling event in SA. More than 120 delegates were treated to a smorgasbord of high quality workshops, prefaced by an engaging keynote address from Volker Krohn, Director of the Hoffman Centre.

Big thanks to members and colleagues who participated in the conference. Contributions great and small were much appreciated.

Some attendees kindly submitted summaries of their workshop experience. Details can be found here.

Planning for the next conference has already begun. We welcome your ideas about themes and speakers or your participation on the organising committee, if that’s your thing. Please let us know via casa.conference@casa.asn.au

CASA Conference Convener

Some comments from delegates:

“Can I congratulate the Conference committee for the conference. It was by far the best conference I have been to for a long time. CASA's conferences are always good but this one was exceptional for me. I am even reprocessing the stuff before I put it away !!!” A.M.

“Thank you to the great CASA team for presenting such a wonderful program on Saturday. I felt particularly welcome by the committee and the participants and found the day not only relevant, but great in every way.” M.M.

“The food for the mind and soul was great: I took away at least one new thought or good idea from each of the presentations I attended and the other food was, as always, absolutely delicious and beautifully presented.” N.M.

“From my perspective the 'buzz' seemed really positive this year during the breaks and I saw that Volker Krohn really enjoyed his day ….. engrossed in conversation or laughing with participants. This is a great sign for CASA I think. It brings the members together and gives us a collective breather from our work and a day to expand and refresh our minds.” T.C.

“THANK YOU for an inspiring conference. Very affirming.” T.M.

Our Next PD Event - Saturday, 19th June

Bodywork Therapy

You asked for a workshop on Bodywork Therapies. Well, here it is!
Narelle McKenzie is well-equipped to present on this topic, being a registered psychologist and the Director and a Senior Trainer of the Australian Radix Training Centre which offers the equivalent of a three year national training programme in Radix body-centered psychotherapy.
Mark this date in your diary now.

June 19th 2010 at 2.00pm
Education Development Centre, Hindmarsh

 Welcome to New Members

The CASA Executive takes great pleasure in welcoming to CASA:

Shannon, Carolyn, Jennifer and Mandy.

Best wishes in your counselling careers, and/or in your continuing studies. We very much look forward to your involvement and contribution to CASA.

It's May - Membership Renewal Time Approaches

Towards the end of May, you will receive your CASA Renewal Invoice and paper work in the mail. Renewals are due by 30th June, so it would be wise to start ensuring now that you have your records of supervision and professional development up to date.

Whilst CASA has managed to keep annual membership fees fixed for the past two years, in order to continue providing high quality services and events to our members and cover the ongoing cost of doing so, membership Fees for 2010-11 will increase slightly.

Professional and Clinical fees rise by $15.00 to $295.00, Associate membership will cost $150.00 - an increase of $10.00, and the Affiliate fee increases by $5.00 to $195.00. Rest assured that your Association is committed to giving you even greater benefits of membership in the coming months.

This year, in addition to being able to make payment by Cheque/Money Order and Bpay you will have the option to pay securely online by credit card (Visa/Mastercard) at the CASA web site. It will still be necessary however, for Clinical and Professional members to post their PD and Supervision logs to CASA.

Members who are PACFA Registrants will have already received their PACFA Register Renewal Paperwork. To avoid the need to provide both CASA and PACFA with the same information, please note that this PACFA Renewal Paperwork is to be returned to CASA. This will result in one less set of paper work for you to worry about.

While you are completing your PACFA paper work, you might like to check your published details on the PACFA website. Many of our members have published their second given names, and as this is a Register for the general public, you may like to change this, but you certainly do not have to.

 Changes on the Executive Team

The Executive Committee recently bid farewell to Sheryle Brenton. Sheryle was a diligent team member being always well prepared for meetings and was a fresh voice in all our discussions. She is missed, and we publicly acknowledge her valuable contribution to CASA. Thank you Sheryle.

As announced in our Autumn Newsletter Pam McEvoy has recently joined the Executive team and has taken on the portfolio of Membership. Pam has been part of the Membership subcommittee for some time with responsibilities in the area of assessing clinical applications for membership and is hence well positioned to assume the role of Membership Convener. It was great to see Pam being kept busy with Membership enquiries at the Conference.

 A Poem for Reflection

Volker Krohn shared the following poem with delegates during his keynote address at the CASA 2010 Conference.

Being-In
by Clark Moustakas

Being–in
Transports me to the world of the other,
A sojourn, a dwelling,
In the presence of this other person,
I listen to understand and to affirm what is
Just the way it is, an internal entering into the other’s world.
Emptied and purified of my own private thoughts
I am inside the other’s feeling, gestures, glances
Fully present, abiding in the other’s world in a sustaining way.
I hear the words, strong, clear words
That express the pain and that point to possibilities that
Open pathways to a new and creative Life.
Being-in
Touches the pain,
Goes through the suffering, realizes the struggle to live authentically and
To touch the essence of relationship.
Being-in
Means IN the other’s world, connecting with what is and how it came to be,
Being-in
Is human presence; it means caring and acceptance
Of whatever is uncovered or disclosed.
