 Meet the New Executive Committee!

The new Executive Committee of CASA is now in session, with the first of our meetings occurring in August and September this year.

We appreciate the commitment from the previous Executive; those who have now moved on and those who have stayed for another year. We especially welcome the new Members of our Executive, Helen Osborn and Peter Dyke.

The Constitution states that the Executive Committee is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting, to manage the affairs of our Association. We will continue to carry this out with professionalism and with accountability. One of our goals is to provide as many benefits back to its Members as possible, and to continue to serve with a generous and inclusive spirit.

(For those who were unable to attend the AGM, a copy of the Annual Report is available for viewing here).

Introducing the team for this year

President: Robert Bullock
Over the last few years I have been serving on the Executive in various convener roles and now as the newly elected President of CASA. I am proud to serve alongside our Executive team and the many valuable Members who support this fine association. Now that we are moving closer toward the regulation of Counselling in South Australia, I want to acknowledge our former Presidents and Executive Members for their significant contribution to this important work. My involvement in CASA is an exciting and rewarding experience, and I will continue the work of setting professional standards in Counselling and striving to maintain them.

Secretary: Peter Dyke
I have been a counselling for ten years having an independent private practice. I recently joined CASA and have become a Clinical Counsellor and an Accredited Supervisor. I feel honoured to serve you as Secretary. I value our Association highly; not only to defend the profession, but to promote the value that counselling has in our society. Our Executive will need support and input in the challenges that lie ahead and I am willing to be a part of this venture.

Treasurer: Peter Zanol
As Treasurer I believe I will be able to contribute to CASA’s progress and assist in the plans for enriching this professional organisation. I am both familiar with and experienced in the duties involved through my involvement with administration in other organisations. My two years experience as a Committee Member has given me insight into future goals and plans for CASA.

Committee Member: Judy Headley
During the past twelve months I have enjoyed fulfilling the role of Professional Development Convener and I have also assisted on the CASA Editorial Committee.  I lecture and tutor in Counselling courses in the undergraduate Psychology program at UniSA. I conducted research into Counselling Education in the area of minimum training standards as part of my doctoral program. I counsel in a variety of settings, including running my own private practice.

Committee Member: Helen Osborn
I am a Clinical Member of CASA and have been a member of the Association since 2003. I have been working with clients dealing with Loss and Grief, Life Changes and dealing with the impact on the lives of all members of the family and friends. I am committed to a high level of professionalism in dealing with clients and as a practitioner, a strong supporter of personal development and reflection, and strongly embrace the Code of Ethics, values and beliefs of CASA.

Committee Member: Pam McEvoy
I have been a member of CASA for the past four years. I joined the Executive Committee as the Membership Convener in May 2010. I am committed to increasing our membership by promoting CASA at every opportunity. I will endeavour to ensure that both new and current members receive all the assistance they need to meet the requirements of the membership category to which they aspire. I look forward to continuing in this challenging role.

PD Now Free for CASA Members!

Yes, you read the headline correctly!

We are proud to announce that all financial CASA Members will now be given free admission to nominated PD events, starting with our next event on 6th November this year!

This exciting new initiative is designed to increase the value of CASA membership, encourage even greater attendance by our members at these workshops and make it easier for Professional and Clinical Members to meet their annual PD requirement for renewal.

Non-member admission fees will be increased to more accurately reflect the true value of our outstanding PD events and emphasise the benefits of becoming a CASA member.

 Positions Vacant

Sub-Committees - We are seeking enthusiastic people to consider involvement on one of our excellent sub-committees. Become part of the team to progress our Association and the counselling profession!

We extend our thanks to previous CASA sub-committee members including; Toni Catford, Carol Longmire, Sandy Haynes, Pam McEvoy, Sue Lilley, Ryan Carr and Peter Crotti for their valuable contribution.

There are opportunities to work with the Executive Committee Conveners in Conference, Publications, Ethics, Membership and Professional Development.

The Executive Committee – If you are a Professional or Clinical Member of CASA and seeking more information about your possible involvement on the Executive Committee, please contact us to arrange a time to meet with the President or any member of the friendly executive team.

 Last Chance for Membership Renewal

Thank you to those who have renewed your membership for the coming year. This is a reminder to all CASA members that have not renewed their membership for 2010-2011, that 30th September is the final deadline. After this date your membership will lapse and a $50 reinstatement fee will apply in addition to the normal renewal fee. If you are on the PACFA Register and are unfinancial as at 30th September, your registration will lapse and you will need to re-apply after restoring your financial status with CASA.

Now that membership includes free admission to selected PD events, there's even more incentive to renew!

Glowing Feedback for September PD on "SHAME"

Our September PD event “Unmasking the Many Faces of Shame” with Dr Pamela Brear, Noela Maletz and Jennifer Stanley was one of the most well attended and outstanding events that we have presented in CASA.

Many thanks to those who have already provided us with valuable feedback. Copies of the presenters notes will be available on completion of the evaluation form, using the link provided by email to all those who attended.

Some encouraging feedback comments on the workshop so far:

  • The workshop met my expectations. Actually, it exceeded my expectations!

  • The presenter was engaging and interesting to listen to. I particularly enjoyed the visualisation.

  • The content, it's relevance and the role play example – brilliant!!!

  • I really enjoyed the demonstration - as a new counsellor, it is always fascinating to see how other people utilise techniques that I have learnt about.

  • I am glad I went and this is the first PD event I have been to with CASA. I found it very relevant and empowering to gain a deeper understanding of the true impact of such a commonly minimized emotion in our sometimes tough love western culture. It was a positive personal and professional learning experience. Thanks

  • The Afternoon tea was awesome – thanks Sue Lilley

  • This was probably the best CASA event I have attended

PACFA Register

Many of you are aware that PACFA is currently working with Private Health Funds to grant provider numbers to PACFA registrants. This has already been achieved in NSW and we are currently in the process of submitting our documentation ready for the auditing process.

In order to be considered for a provider number you must be a current CASA Member, be on the PACFA Register and be able to provide a certified copy of a current Senior First Aid Certificate.
We strongly encourage you to support the PACFA Register by applying for either Provisional or Clinical Membership. For more information about joining the PACFA Register please contact our Membership Convener.
